Stop Suppressing Your Emotions

It's Not Healthy

Growing up in the church or a Christian home, I was taught to suppress my emotions at a young age, whether dealing with anger, adapting to hatred, enduring unforgiveness, lust, fear, or anything else that contradicts God. It was almost like I was placed in this corner to pray, read my bible, fast, or admit there was a lack of faith when having those emotions. And, by doing the following, they would simply go away. But the more I prayed, the more emotions were being suppressed, ignored, and denied my humanity. Believing I couldn't talk to God about how I felt because it was wrong to do so. Or He simply didn't want to hear "How I felt."

But I’ learning, that is a complete LIE!

For the longest time, I felt I couldn't go to God about my emotions because people made it seem like "Having Emotions were a bad thing, especially if it wasn't Faith related" But as I chose God for myself and not by what others may perceive, He is teaching me How To.

  • How to Trust Him.

  • How to Walk by Faith and Not by sight

  • How to believe He is God, and God all by Himself in My Life.

  • How to depend on Him and not a broken past or relationship.

That it's essential to pray, read, fast, and worship daily, but if we’re holding on to something in our heart, it's vital to admit those feelings to God as well so, He can teach us to walk in His ways and not by our emotions.

It's not a matter of covering it up in prayers as if it would go away. Or pretending like what happened in your past doesn't bother you. Whether you were cheated on, lied to, molested, laughed at, cursed out, or did the possible worst thing in your life (because I have). It's about going to God with a humbled heart, opening your mouth, and telling Him How you feel. BE OPEN & HONEST, ask for help and forgiveness because only God truly knows what your heart needs, and He alone can provide that for you. It’s about being vulnerable.

Suppressed emotions will lead to failure, disruption, deception, and false actions as you hold that burden, hurt, or grudge that needs to be addressed. All God wants to do is lead and guide you on how to confront those emotions but through Him.

Trust Him in the process.

He wants to teach you how to forgive, love, let go, and walk by faith. Coming to Him; knowing He is your peace, love, joy, patience, mercy, grace, and every good thing.

And He Is; never doubt that.

It's not in the matter of not having emotions or ignoring them. It’s in the matter of having faith that God will teach you to walk in His ways, not your own when faced with those emotions.
