Relationship Status

It is essential to realize your relationship status with Jesus Christ. Why? becasue it gives you an idea of what your energy and time are going towards. In other words, what are you prioritizing in your life that has influenced you the most? What has impacted your character, habits, and words? Now, I’m not talking about your Facebook status, whether you are single, in a relationship, or married. I’m talking about what is your relationship status with Jesus Christ. Not to get all personal, but ask yourself how much time I am spending with Jesus on a daily bases that have changed areas I need to work on.

Often, we tend to get lost in our daily lives; whether that's work, school, hobbies, activities, or even social media/T.V, and though the following are normal, it's crucial to be attentive to the firm foundation who is Jesus Christ; being the center of our lives. When we lose focus on who is our source, strength, peace, and foremost priority, everything else can fall out of place, and we may not even realize it.

So how do we address this matter and notice when things shift in a relationship with Him?

There should be a specific time throughout our busy day of quietness, prayer, worship, and reading the Word of God. Whether a stay-at-home parent or conducting a busy work life, if it matters, MAKE TIME! It could be a lunch break, when the children are taking a nap, washing the dishes, driving to and from work, or even a bathroom break. Whenever or However, we need to recognize where most of our time is going throughout the day. Now, it’s also essential to acknowledge our attitudes and mindset. Notice if our words are becoming harsher towards the spouse or our patience is thinner than expected with the kids. Or are habits being brought back up from out past. It’s best to ask the Holy Spirit where this is steaming from. You can ask, Why am I feeling this way? Why has my mindset been so negative lately? What do I need to change? He will then show you the root of the problem, but don’t be surprised if it comes from something or someone you thought was “normal.” When you come to God to help build your relationship with Him, come open-minded and humbled so He can show you areas where you have pushed Jesus asided.

Here's a prayer that has helped me when I noticed a shift in my relationship,

Dear God, I feel different. I noticed there's been a shift with my words and habits and I need your help and guidance. Holy Spirit you are welcome in this place. You are welcome in my heart to remove anything that is not of you out of me. Allow me to be willing to come close to you and fill me with your love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, meekness, temperance, and faith. Help me today because I know I cannot do this on my own in Jesus name.

It's that simple. No big fancy words, but openness and honest for God to hear your heart.

As a Christian, it’s easy to get “caught up” where Jesus is an afterthought. I’ll be the first to admit I had moments of taking a step back unintentionally. At the same time, there are habits I involve back into my life that will eventually separate me from God. This comes from my conviction the Holy Spirit brought to my attention, and it may be different from you, and that’s okay. Just make sure you are taking the time out of your day to listen to the voice of God and what he needs to bring to your attention for an authentic and personal relationship with Jesus.

See you next week for a small life changing message!
